3D Lab, a company specialising in additive manufacturing and advanced metal powder production, has been granted a Chinese patent for its ATO atomiser technology. The patented method, entitled ‘Method for evacuating powder produced by ultrasonic atomisation and apparatus for carrying out this method’, underlines the importance of ultrasonic metal atomisation for 3D Lab and strengthens its position in the global market.
The newly patented technology enables the production of metal powders with high-quality properties that are crucial for additive manufacturing and other industrial applications. The focus is on the excellent flowability and sphericity of the powder particles as well as a precise and controllable particle size distribution. In addition, a low oxygen content of the powders is guaranteed, which is crucial for many industrial applications. This method also reduces the space required by the atomiser, which increases production efficiency.
At the heart of this technology is the ATO Lab Plus, 3D Lab’s flagship ultrasonic atomiser. The ATO Lab Plus enables the production of spherical metal powders with targeted control of the particle size distribution and offers flexibility in the selection of the starting material. These features make the system particularly interesting for various industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing and additive manufacturing.
With the introduction of this patented technology, 3D Lab is strengthening its role in metal powder production and offering solutions that are essential for modern production processes. Industry experts see 3D Lab’s technology as an important step towards optimising powder production for additive manufacturing.
