3D-printed ferrite absorbers: Telemeter Electronic offers flexible EMC solutions up to 20 GHz

Telemeter Electronic has introduced a new material for the additive manufacturing of electromagnetic absorbers that is aimed at a technically demanding target group. The material, which is based on ferritic granulate, is available as an FDM filament with a diameter of 1.75 mm and enables the production of complex, customized geometries for the targeted attenuation of electromagnetic waves in the range from a few megahertz to 20 gigahertz.

Compared to conventional absorber solutions made from solid shapes or coated substrates, 3D printing offers significant advantages in terms of design freedom and frequency adjustment. The electromagnetic properties of the material can be precisely matched to the desired frequency range through structural variations – for example through honeycomb or multi-layer designs – and through simulation-based optimization of the absorber thickness. The ability to adjust the material distribution in the printing process allows the filling level to be adjusted as required, which means that the damping performance can be further individualized.

The material base consists of a ferritic, lossy polymer composite that has been specially developed for additive processing. In combination with standard FDM printers, the absorber can be produced directly from CAD models. This opens up new options, particularly in the EMC-compliant development of prototypes, the integration of antennas in housings and for electronic assemblies with high requirements in terms of interference immunity or signal suppression.

According to Telemeter Electronic, the range is aimed in particular at developers who are dependent on flexible solutions and cannot use conventional absorbers for space or design reasons. The modular structure and the possibility of precise design make the 3D-printable ferrite absorbers a practical alternative in the field of electromagnetic shielding.
