3D Printed Pocket Watch Showcases What You Can Do With a 2.000$ 3D Printer

Laimer Christoph designed and built an incredibly showcase for FDM 3D Printers: a mechanical 3D printed watch.

Forget the Apple Watch! – You can build a functional mechanical watch yourself only using a 3D printer and a few screws. The Swiss Christoph Laimer works as a software engineer and designed the working watch. This watch was produced only by using an Ultimaker 2 3D printer and a handful of screws.

The design of the watch is based on a Tourbillon, which uses a spring to save energy and to drive the hands of the watch. Before you build one yourself, however, we should tell you that the watch has to be wind up every half hour or it will stop working. Maybe not the right tool to tell you the time of your next meeting but an incredible showcase of what can be archived using a 2.000$ 3D printer.

Christoph explains how the watch works in this short video:

You can download the design on Thingiverse.
