Toybox Labs is expanding its portfolio of entry-level 3D printers with two new models. The Alpha Two and Comet devices are aimed specifically at young users and educational institutions.
The Alpha Two costs 249 dollars at market launch and builds on the familiar concept of the previous model. The printer is characterized by improved durability and precision. Connectivity has also been optimized so that the printer communicates more easily with the associated software.
The larger Comet model is available to pre-order for 349 dollars and offers a larger print volume than the Alpha Two. Comet is designed to be modular and can be upgraded with future hardware additions.
Both 3D printers use the in-house Creator Space platform. This software has been fundamentally revised and now supports the simultaneous control of multiple printers. Another new feature is a CAD function that allows users to create their own 3D models.
The platform also includes an extensive library of licensed 3D models from DC, Universal and Viacom. These can be printed at the touch of a button. Toybox Labs wants to make it particularly easy to get started with 3D printing.
The Alpha Two is available now, while the Comet is due to be delivered before the holidays. Both printers are primarily aimed at educational institutions, families and young makers who want to gain their first experience with 3D printing technology.
