3D printing in dentistry: SprintRay integrates iTero scanner into digital production chain

Picture: SprintRay

The US company SprintRay, which specializes in dental 3D printing solutions, has introduced an interface to Align Technology’s iTero intraoral scanners. The new API integration enables direct data transfer from the scanner to the SprintRay ecosystem and aims to optimize digital workflows for dental restorations. In addition to the SprintRay Cloud, the integration also includes the new Midas Digital Press and modernized materials for additively manufactured prosthetics.

After scanning, dentists can transfer the digital impression data directly to SprintRay via the iTero prescription form. AI-supported design services are then available in the cloud to automate the design of restorations such as crowns or veneers and prepare them for printing. The combination of fast data processing, optimized printing materials and the new Midas printing unit should enable the production of patient-specific restorations in just one session.

The Midas Digital Press was specially designed for dental applications and processes new materials with increased strength and improved esthetic properties. The aim is to produce high-quality, resilient and ready-to-use restorations directly in the dental practice with minimal technical effort. The cooperation with Align Technology addresses the increasing demand for chairside solutions that can dispense with traditional dental laboratories.

The integration is now available for all iTero scanners in supported markets. The aim is to facilitate the transition to fully digital workflows – both for individual practices and larger dental care facilities. According to SprintRay, the next development step in dental production is clearly characterized by the combination of networking, automation and additive production.
