The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) has been awarded the Global Excellence Award in Technology Project Management 2024. The recognition was given by the Global Project Management Forum for the hospital’s innovative 3D printing project, which is fundamentally improving medical care. The use of 3D printing technologies enables more precise diagnoses, more efficient surgical procedures and a significant reduction in costs and treatment times.
The project is based on global project management standards and integrates advanced 3D printing processes into clinical practice. As a result, patient-specific medical models can be produced directly on site. These models allow doctors to plan operations in advance, which shortens the duration of procedures by around 30 percent. At the same time, the length of stay in hospital and potential risks are reduced. This leads to more predictable and precise outcomes, ultimately improving the patient experience significantly.
The KFSHRC explained that its vision is to further expand the use of 3D printing. In addition to optimizing surgical procedures, research is also being conducted into the application of the technology in other areas of medicine to replace traditional procedures with digital methods. This is in line with KFSHRC’s goal of providing world-class specialized care and continuously improving patient satisfaction.
The Global Excellence Award for Project Management recognizes innovative approaches that drive significant transformation in organizations and improve customer experience. The Technology Project of the Year category recognizes projects that implement creative and successful technological solutions with measurable benefits for organizations and patients. KFSHRC’s 3D printing project is an outstanding example of how technology is transforming healthcare.
