Direct Dimensions and CAD BLU are hosting a free “3D Scan & Print Demo Day” on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the CAD BLU showroom in Midtown Manhattan (250 39th Street, 2:00–7:00 p.m.). The target audience is engineers, designers, and manufacturers who want to follow complete workflows from data capture to additive production. The focus is on hands-on demonstrations where participants can bring their own parts.

“We’re excited to bring our 3D scanning expertise directly to the NYC design and engineering community,” said Michael Raphael, Founder and CEO of Direct Dimensions. “This hands-on event is all about showing people what’s truly possible with today’s 3D technology; from fast, accurate digitizing to seamless integration with CAD and 3D printing workflows.”

Technically, the program spans from handheld to long-range scanning. Demonstrations include Artec systems for large-volume scenes (Ray II), for high-resolution small parts at the desktop (Micro II), and for mobile, color real-time capture with on-board reconstruction (Leo). The demos will cover typical steps such as point-cloud registration, meshing, alignment to CAD reference systems, tolerance analysis, and export to formats like STL or STEP. On the printing side, CAD BLU will showcase applications from investment casting to dentistry, including wax-based patterns for investment casting (ProJet MJP 2500 IC), jewelry waxes with fine surface finish (ProJet MJP 300W Plus), and printing monolithic denture bases including teeth with validated dental materials (NextDent 300).

“CAD BLU is thrilled to co-host this event with Direct Dimensions,” said Rich Motto, President and CEO of CAD BLU. “Together, we’re giving attendees a front-row look at how scanning and printing technologies work hand-in-hand to turn physical objects into digital realities, and back again.”

From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., individual scanning and printing sessions will take place, followed by an open networking phase starting at 5:00 p.m. The organizer recommends pre-registration via Eventbrite; attendance is free of charge. For teams looking to establish reverse engineering, quality assurance, or custom small-batch production with additive manufacturing, the format offers the opportunity to assess real-world constraints, accuracies, and material options firsthand.
