3D Systems and Precision Resource announce strategic partnership

3D printing specialist 3D Systems and Precision Resource, a leader in manufacturing critical components for the automotive, heavy-duty, aerospace and medical device industries, announced a strategic partnership to scale and accelerate additive manufacturing.

As part of this agreement, Precision Resource has purchased two DMP Flex 350 Dual 3D printers from 3D Systems to be used in its AS9100-certified manufacturing facility in Huntington Beach, California. The seamless integration of 3D Systems’ DMP technology into Precision Resource’s production processes, complemented by 5-axis machine centers and advanced inspection systems, expands Precision Resource’s precision metalworking portfolio and provides new solutions for the evolving needs of Precision Resource’s customers.

Engineers from 3D Systems’ Application Innovation Group (AIG) worked closely with the Precision Resource team to develop this solution. Both teams have extensive expertise in metal processing and highly complex applications. This technical expertise, combined with 3D Systems’ DMP technology and Precision Resource’s extensive post-processing capabilities, resulted in an efficient and robust end-to-end manufacturing solution for additive manufacturing parts that meets the performance requirements of highly critical components and solves supply chain issues through vertical integration.

The DMP Flex 350 platform from 3D Systems is designed for flexible applications from the development phase through to series production. Fast changeover modules and an efficient powder recycling system speed up production, while a central server manages print jobs, materials, settings and maintenance to ensure 24/7 productivity. The unique vacuum chamber concept of the DMP Flex 350 printers greatly reduces argon consumption while ensuring first-class oxygen purity (<25 ppm). This results in exceptionally strong parts with high chemical purity, better metallurgical properties and excellent surface quality. The printer also includes 3DXpert software, which supports every step of the additive manufacturing workflow, from design to post-processing.
