3D Systems records decline in sales in the third quarter of 2024

3D printer manufacturer 3D Systems has published preliminary figures for the third quarter of 2024. Revenue fell by USD 10.9 million to USD 112.9 million compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Group attributes the weaker result mainly to the difficult economic situation, which is particularly noticeable in the hardware segment. Some important business deals were also postponed to the fourth quarter of 2024.

By contrast, the materials business developed positively. Sales of printing materials increased by 10% compared to the third quarter of 2023. Compared to the second quarter of 2024, the increase was 9%. This shows that the installed base of 3D printers continues to be well utilized.

Jeffrey Graves, CEO of 3D Systems, emphasizes the progress made in product development. The company recently received FDA approvals for several medical applications, including printed dental prostheses and guidance aids for ankle operations. At the Formnext trade fair, 3D Systems plans to present new printers and materials for the medical technology, foundry, energy, automotive and aerospace sectors.

The company is continuing its restructuring in order to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs. Expenditure on research and development is to be largely maintained. 3D Systems will present its full quarterly figures in the week beginning November 25.
