AESUB Introduces Magnetic Reference Targets for 3D Scanning Processes

For the precise capture of components in 3D scanning processes, reference targets are an essential tool. They ensure exact positioning and repeatability of measurements, enabling consistent results—especially when using optical scanning systems. AESUB, a manufacturer known for its temporary scanning sprays and accessory solutions, has now developed magnetic retro-reflective reference targets specifically designed for metallic surfaces.

The new AESUBdots Magnetic Targets combine a reflective surface with a magnetic backing. This allows the targets to be quickly placed on metal parts without adhesives or additional fixtures. A key advantage: the reference targets are reusable and leave no residue on the component. This eliminates post-scan cleaning and helps protect sensitive surfaces.

From a technical standpoint, the retro-reflective properties ensure reliable detection by optical scanners—even under poor lighting conditions or on dark materials. The secure magnetic attachment prevents accidental shifting, further enhancing measurement reliability. With a diameter of 6 millimeters, the targets are currently tailored for typical industrial applications where high precision and fast handling are required.

The reusability of the targets also offers significant cost-saving potential, particularly compared to conventional single-use adhesive reference dots. For companies that regularly scan metal components, this solution represents a technically and economically smart addition to their scanning equipment. With this innovation, AESUB is reinforcing its position in the growing segment of intelligent scan preparation, increasingly shaped by automation and efficiency improvements.
