AMDROiD X: Mobile laser DED solution for use in demanding environments

The AMDROiD X is an autonomous Laser Directed Energy Deposition (LDED) system designed for mobile use in challenging environments. With a powerful 12 kW fiber laser, it enables on-site manufacturing and repair of large metal parts, including critical components made of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum and copper. The system is housed in a modular, 10-foot container suitable for fast transportation and flexible use.

The machine features multi-axis robotics supplied by ABB and controlled by ADDiTEC Builder software. This architecture allows the processing of complex geometries with high precision. The coating thickness is between 0.6 and 1.8 mm, while the maximum application rate is 4 kg per hour. A closed shielding gas environment with vacuum and argon reduces contamination during the process. Real-time process control is provided by a pyrometer-based closed-loop control system that dynamically adjusts the laser power and wire feed.

The system’s energy supply is based on four Powerwalls with a total capacity of 54 kWh, which can be charged via a solar roof. This enables self-sufficient operation even in remote areas. In addition, a HEPA air filter system (MERV 17) ensures effective exhaust gas purification.

The AMDROiD X’s robust design and rapid deployment make it suitable for applications in the aerospace, shipbuilding and heavy industry sectors. The combination of high production capacity, automated process control and mobile infrastructure makes it a versatile solution for flexible metal production under demanding conditions.
