The Schmelzmetall Group was acquired by AMPCO METAL, a global leader in the production of high-quality copper alloys based in Marly, Switzerland.
Schmelzmetall produces over 50 million tons of PVC annually and is known for its precise chemical composition and low porosity of its products. These properties are particularly important for aerospace and defense applications where material reliability and stability are critical. By integrating Schmelzmetall’s expertise in additive manufacturing, AMPCO METAL now offers a variety of copper-based metal powders specifically designed for 3D printing.
Another benefit of the acquisition is the expanded expertise in welding and casting processes. AMPCO METAL plans to use this expertise to develop innovative 3D printing technologies that meet the requirements of demanding industries. The new materials and technologies open up a wide range of potential applications, particularly in the aerospace and medical technology sectors.
The integration of the Schmelzmetall Group into AMPCO METAL will be completed by the end of the year. Customers can continue to count on their usual contacts, while the expanded product and service portfolio will ensure a seamless transition. AMPCO METAL emphasizes that there will be no disruption in service and the quality of products will remain high.
This strategic acquisition underscores AMPCO METAL’s commitment to further expanding its position in the 3D printing market through targeted acquisitions and technological innovation to meet the growing demands of the industry.
