AMufacture and HP showcase MJF end-use parts for yacht and boat building at Metstrade

AMufacture will be making a significantly larger appearance at Metstrade 2025 in Amsterdam, collaborating with HP for this purpose. The British contract manufacturer wants to demonstrate how replacement and series components for the marine industry can be produced economically using Multi Jet Fusion (MJF). The target groups are shipyards, equipment suppliers, and system suppliers who require short delivery times and resilient plastics.

Founded in 2018 by Craig Pyser and Will Howden, the company is considered an early adopter of HP’s 5420W platform in the UK. The focus is on components made of PA12 and PA11 for small to medium series, also available in white for visible components if required. MJF is suitable for functionally integrated geometries, uniform mechanical properties in X/Y/Z, and high packing densities in the build job. This reduces costs per part and speeds up replacement.

In the maritime environment, AMufacture addresses housings, brackets, air ducts, and sensor mountings, among other things. The teams counteract salt water and UV exposure with material selection, finish options such as vibratory grinding, and optional steam smoothing for smoother surfaces. Customers can customize components using DfAM, for example with grids for weight reduction or integrated cable channels.

Will Howden, himself a naval architect and Olympic sailor, emphasizes the maturity of the technology: “A large part of our production today consists of final components, not just prototypes.” According to Howden, modular manufacturing is well suited to the quantities and variety of variants in boat building.

HP is supporting the presentation as a technology partner and highlights the scalability of the platform. “Industrial additive manufacturing enables robust and flexible supply chains in the marine sector,” says Claudia Galdini, Industrial Segment Manager at HP.

Metstrade runs from November 18 to 20 in Amsterdam. AMufacture is exhibiting at booth 07.515, demonstrating components and process chains from CAD to tested parts.

On the corporate side, AMufacture reports a sevenfold expansion of capacity within two years. In addition, the manufacturer received “Cyber Essentials Plus” certification and appointed former Dyson managing director David Hollander as chairman. With fresh capital from Maven Capital and co-investor Turner, the team plans further growth in the United Kingdom and internationally.
