With the announced closure of Aniwaa, the 3D printing industry is losing one of the most comprehensive reference works for additive manufacturing technologies. The French company, which was founded in 2013 by Martin Lansard and Pierre-Antoine Arrighi, developed from a side project into an established B2B platform for professional users in the field of additive manufacturing.
For over a decade, Aniwaa provided structured information on more than 1,400 3D printers, 400 scanners and over 150 post-processing systems. The platform was a one-stop shop for many technical buyers and developers to compare market overviews and technical specifications. Despite this role, Aniwaa says it has not been able to build a sustainable economic base. In a post on LinkedIn, CEO Martin Lansard explains that the decision to close the company was made after lengthy deliberations.
The market for information platforms in the AM industry has changed significantly in recent years. Manufacturers are increasingly relying on their own communication channels, and specialized comparison portals are under economic pressure. Monetizing freely accessible technical data remains a challenge, especially in a segment in which many providers interact directly with interested parties. Aniwaa had attempted to establish long-term sources of revenue through partnerships and a data-based platform structure – apparently without sufficient success.
Martin Lansard has since moved to Wohlers Associates, a subsidiary of ASTM International. There he is responsible for the Digital Platforms division. His knowledge of structuring and processing technical product data should stand him in good stead in this role.
