ArcelorMittal increases efficiency with Stratasys technology

The European steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal is increasingly relying on 3D printing to increase the efficiency of its production processes. Stratasys F370 3D printer technology has been integrated into the research center in Maizières-lès-Metz for this purpose. This allows complex tools, devices and functional prototypes to be produced much faster and more flexibly than with conventional manufacturing methods.

Using the F370 enables the research team to produce prototypes from polymer materials in just a few hours instead of using complex and expensive aluminum components. Such a validation process costs less than 200 euros, compared to almost 2,000 euros for conventional methods. In addition to the reduced costs, engineers also benefit from the ability to run the printing processes overnight, further reducing development times.

Using GrabCAD Print software and the F370’s material versatility, ArcelorMittal can produce precise components in carbon fiber, thermoplastic polyurethane and other high-performance thermoplastics. These materials and the robust printer architecture are suitable for both office and workbench applications.

“By integrating Stratasys solutions, ArcelorMittal Maizières Research has expanded its capacity to produce custom parts with enhanced lead times and agility. The flexibility of 3D printing allows for quicker iterations and testing, reducing risk and reliance on traditional supply chains and ensuring continuous operational and cost efficiency.” said Louis Wolfer at ArcelorMittal Maizières Research.

An important partner in this process is Seido Systèmes, which is supporting ArcelorMittal in expanding its additive manufacturing capabilities. The Stratasys Origin DLP printer will soon be integrated to work with high quality resins for demanding industrial applications.

“Our relationship with ArcelorMittal is a great example of how additive manufacturing is finding its place on the factory floor,” said Andreas Langfeld, President EMEA and APAC at Stratasys. “By adopting our solutions, ArcelorMittal is unlocking new use cases, streamlining production, and achieving the speed and precision required for modern manufacturing. Working alongside Seido, we continue to demonstrate the value that additive manufacturing brings to industrial customers.”
