Luxembourg-based company Artec 3D has secured €15 million in funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB). Over the next three years, the funds will primarily support the further development of 3D scanners and data processing algorithms. The research and development work will be carried out mainly in Luxembourg, complemented by activities in Portugal. This financing is part of the InvestEU program, which specifically supports technology-driven companies within the EU.
For over a decade, Artec 3D has been developing portable 3D scanners and associated software solutions for a wide range of industrial and scientific applications. The combination of hardware and proprietary processing software enables the precise capture of objects with varying geometries and materials—without the need for stationary reference systems. This flexibility has enabled the systems to be used in fields such as mechanical engineering, medical technology, and cultural heritage preservation. In particular, the scanners are regarded as established tools for the precise digitization involved in creating digital twins.
“The collaboration with the European Investment Bank is above all a recognition of Artec 3D’s role as a leading company in interdisciplinary research and development in AI and computer vision on Europe’s high-tech map,” said Art Yukhin, CEO and co-founder of Artec 3D. “For 18 years, our expert team has been developing groundbreaking 3D technologies that set new standards in 3D scanning and digital twin creation. With EIB support, we can expand our research and development activities and accelerate the creation of next-generation industrial-grade solutions, helping to strengthen Europe’s technological leadership in the global market.”
According to Artec 3D, a key focus of upcoming development will be the integration of AI-powered analysis methods into 3D data processing. The goal is to enhance automation in model generation and thus reduce the effort involved in complex scanning projects.
“The European Investment Bank’s support for Artec 3D’s innovative work through the InvestEU program is great news for Luxembourg and Europe. Promoting European excellence in 3D scanning technologies and strengthening the EU’s technological leadership is crucial at a time when the EU is working to close innovation gaps. This support will directly enable the company to drive innovation and job creation in Luxembourg and across the Union. We look forward to the positive impact of Artec 3D’s research and development activities,” added Anne Calteux, Head of the EU Representation in Luxembourg.
