
The Luxembourg-based company Artec 3D has released an update to its scanning and processing software with Artec Studio 20.3. The version is available to all users of Artec Studio 20 and is aimed primarily at users who employ 3D scans for inspection, reverse engineering, and downstream 3D printing. The focus is on more efficient workflows, higher data quality, and better integration into existing metrology and CAD processes.
A key new feature is the direct connection to PolyWorks Inspector, implemented as part of a partnership with Innovmetric. According to the company, meshes, point clouds, and CAD primitives can now be exported without intermediate steps and evaluated using ISO- and ASME-compliant tools. For users in quality assurance, this significantly shortens the time between scanning, analysis, and approval, which is particularly relevant for additive manufacturing processes.
Support for scanner hardware has also been expanded. With the Artec Spider II, finer reduction of point density per capture allows large datasets to be selectively streamlined. This facilitates the further processing of high-resolution scans, for example when preparing printable models. The Artec Ray II complements this with full panorama support in the E57 format, simplifying integration into AEC software and providing additional context for large-volume scans.
Improvements to AI photogrammetry address typical hurdles in creating models from photos. Mask-free capture reduces manual effort, while two specialized algorithms cover different object sizes and capture scenarios. This is complemented by optimized texturing functions and adapted workflows that prioritize sharp image data.
Overall, Artec Studio 20.3 aims to make the path from data acquisition to 3D printing more consistent and reproducible. For technically experienced users, this primarily means greater control over data volume, accuracy, and integration into existing manufacturing and inspection chains.
