ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) has launched the Additive Manufacturing Certification Committee (AMCC) in collaboration with numerous industry partners. This initiative aims to develop standardized test criteria for the qualification of supply chains in the 3D printing sector.
The AMCC is made up exclusively of representatives of end users of additive manufacturing. The 23 founding members include well-known companies such as Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Lockheed Martin and Johnson & Johnson. This cross-industry composition is intended to ensure that the test criteria developed meet the requirements of different industry sectors.
The test criteria are based on published international standards and best industry practices. After almost a year of collaboration, the first version of the criteria is in the final development phase. It is designed to enable organizations to qualify both suppliers and in-house 3D printing facilities.
The AMCC complements existing ASTM AM CoE certification programs that cover the entire additive manufacturing value chain. These include certifications for process quality assurance, metal laser powder bed fusion machine operators and equipment safety.
The AMCC will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the test criteria and managing the certification program. It will continue to develop comprehensive checklists for additive manufacturing, uniting industry leaders in a common effort to advance the field and ensure robust, reliable supply chains.
