At this year’s RAPID + TCT in Detroit, ATO Technology, together with its U.S. partner Additive Plus, is presenting new developments for the production and processing of metal powder in the context of additive manufacturing. The focus is on systems specifically designed for efficiency, material diversity, and process reliability in powder production. The technologies are particularly geared toward applications in high-precision metal 3D printing and powder metallurgy.
A key innovation is the ULTRA FREQUENCY SYSTEM, introduced as the fourth frequency variant within ATO’s ultrasonic atomization platform. It enables the production of fine, spherical metal powders with an average particle size of around 25 micrometers and a narrow particle size distribution. The system is aimed at users with high demands for powder quality and process repeatability, such as in laser powder bed fusion or binder jetting applications.
In parallel, ATO is showcasing an updated version of the ATO Cast system. The new induction vacuum casting unit features an integrated oxygen sensor, a pyrometer with a camera, and an optimized user interface. These upgrades aim to allow more precise control in alloy design as well as in the recovery and production of metal rods for powder production.
The portfolio is rounded out by the enhanced ATO Sieve. According to the manufacturer, the sieving system offers higher throughput and improved protection against contamination—particularly important for sensitive metal powders. This allows for reliable particle size separation and high-quality processing.
All systems are designed for use with a wide variety of input materials—from wire and rods to ingots and recycled materials from additive manufacturing processes. With this approach, ATO supports closed material cycles and offers a flexible solution for sustainable, on-demand powder supply in both research and industrial settings.
