Atomik AM secures 125,000 pounds for technological advances

UK company Atomik AM, a spin-off from the University of Liverpool, has received £125,000 in funding from LYVA Labs. Atomik AM develops advanced solutions for additive manufacturing and specializes in improving binder jetting technologies. The investment will be used to drive the commercialization of innovative products and support the development of new patents.

Binder jetting is an additive manufacturing process in which powdered materials are bonded together layer by layer using a binder. Atomik AM has developed methods and binders that make this process more efficient and sustainable. The investment will help the company to protect intellectual property, apply for new patents and drive forward the development of a management team. Eight new positions will also be created, including the position of Chief Operating Officer.

Professor Kate Black FREng, Founder and CEO of Atomik AM, said: “This investment is a testament to the groundbreaking work our team is doing to advance additive manufacturing processes. It allows us to expand our capabilities, accelerate innovation, and bring sustainable, cutting-edge solutions to the industry. At Atomik AM, we believe in driving change in manufacturing to create a better future for everyone.”

LYVA Labs, which is funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, is boosting the regional innovation landscape.

LYVA Labs’ Head of Investments, Akshay Bhatnagar, added: “We hope this will be the first of many investments alongside the University of Liverpool, Atomik AM exemplifies the excellence found in advanced manufacturing R&D across Liverpool City Region, and we are pleased to be part of this business’ exciting innovation journey.”

The investment is part of a long-term plan to invest 5% of the region’s GDP in research and development by 2030. By providing targeted support to innovators such as Atomik AM, the aim is to establish the region as a center for advanced manufacturing.
