Autodesk’s Project Escher – Five Extruders Form Huge Objects

Autodesk makes a lot of efforts in the 3D printing space. As a software specialist Autodesk of course improves the software to work better with 3D printers but they also surprised us with their own 3D printer, the Ember.

Now, the company announced another hardware project. Project Escher combines five FDM extruders to one large 3D printer. The extruders know what the others are doing, so they never crash when printing in the intersecting areas. The software also optimises the intersecting areas to provide the same material properties for the whole print.

So the software is key to let the extruders work together and maybe form a platform for the future of FDM 3D printing.
