Bambu Lab P2S: Servo extruder, 5-inch touchscreen, and AMS-2 option starting at €519

Bambu Lab is updating its P series with the P2S, clearly targeting makers and small print farms. The compact FFF printer retains the 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume of its predecessors, but combines it with new components from the H2 series. The aim is to achieve more stable extrusion, better process reliability, and less intervention during operation.

At its heart is a PMSM servo extruder with up to 8.5 kg of contact force. The drive architecture scans resistance and position at 20 kHz, detecting filament grinding or clogging before printing fails. An eddy current sensor is built into the system for material calibration. It measures flow dynamics and allows automatic adjustment of the feed rate.

Bambu Lab also addresses thermal management. The adaptive airflow concept directs cool outside air to specific areas and retains heat in the build chamber when necessary. This allows PLA-like materials to be cooled cleanly with the doors closed, while demanding filaments that are prone to warping benefit from a higher chamber temperature. An activated carbon filter takes care of the exhaust air.

For monitoring, the P2S integrates a camera with 1080p live view and powerful LED lighting. AI checks for typical errors such as “spaghetti,” blobs, or air pressure before and during the job. The system also compares nozzle and plate selection with the slicer settings. For maintenance and nozzle replacement, Bambu Lab relies on a quick-swap hot end that can be replaced using a single-clip mechanism.

Operation is via a 5-inch touchscreen with a redesigned UI. The nozzle tip temperature is a maximum of 300 °C, and the heating bed reaches up to 110 °C. A 0.4 mm nozzle is standard; 0.2/0.6/0.8 mm are available as options. An integrated filament cutter, sensors for the door, material end, material tangle, filament odometry, and power failure recovery round out the package.

The P2S starts at €519 (including VAT) . The P2S combo package costs €749 and includes the AMS 2 Pro for multi-color printing and active drying. According to the manufacturer, the P1S will remain in the product range. For operators of small series, the P2S offers a modern, low-maintenance option with a focus on reproducible results and easy remote monitoring.
