BLT presents new solutions for metallic 3D printing at Formnext

Bright Laser Technologies (BLT) presented innovative developments in the field of metallic 3D printing at this year’s Formnext in Frankfurt. Under the motto “Your Road to Serial Production”, the company presented new technologies and applications aimed in particular at serial production. The solutions cover various industries, including aerospace, automotive, consumer goods and tool manufacturing.

At the center of the exhibition was the updated version of the BLT-S450, a powder bed fusion printer (PBF-LB/M). The machine is designed for efficient and intelligent series production and offers high productivity with a build volume of 450 mm × 450 mm × 500 mm and up to eight lasers. Improved modularity in the powder circuit reduces manual effort through automated sieving, recycling and supply, which significantly increases efficiency. A live demonstration showed the production of complex nozzles with internal channels optimized for combustion technology applications. BLT emphasized that the machine is already being integrated by a customer in a DNV-certified manufacturing facility in the Middle East.

Another highlight was the presentation of a grid panel for satellite applications. This component demonstrates the strengths of 3D printing in the production of lightweight, stable structures. Made from aluminum alloy with wall thicknesses of just 0.5 mm, the panel achieves high precision and strength. Such designs are of great interest in the aerospace industry as they enable weight savings while maintaining stability.

In addition to hardware, BLT also presented advances in material development. New titanium and superalloy powders were on display, which are used in industries such as aerospace, energy and medical technology. To support the increasing demand, the company is currently building a production line for these materials, which will significantly expand industrial production capacities.

BLT underscores its expertise in digital workflows with specially developed software, including the Smart Build Planning Tool BLT-BP and the Manufacturing Execution System BLT-MES. The software solutions optimize production processes, improve traceability and enable seamless integration into industrial manufacturing environments.

BLT emphasizes that the solutions presented are specifically aimed at tapping into the advantages of additive manufacturing in series production and thus offering an alternative to conventional processes.
