At the LMT Lab Day 2025 in Chicago, Carbon presented the development of FP3D, a new resin for flexible, removable partial dentures (FRPD). This material is based on the company’s proprietary dual-cure chemistry and is designed to offer improved mechanical properties and greater durability. A market launch is planned for the end of 2025, subject to FDA approval.
Traditional single-phase resins often reach their limits in dental applications as they do not offer the required combination of flexibility, strength and durability. FP3D addresses these challenges through a secondary heat-activated cure that creates additional stability after the printing process. This technology makes it possible to achieve isotropic mechanical properties without compromising on viscosity or detail.
Carbon has already established its dual-cure technology in other industries, including sports equipment, bicycle components and shoe soles. The transfer of this material science to dental technology should lead to more durable and reliable dental prostheses.
In addition to material development, Carbon is expanding its automation solutions for dental laboratories. The new Automatic Print Preparation Tool reduces manual intervention in the printing process and enables more efficient production through automated print preparation and nesting functions. In addition, the AO Polishing Cassette system will now also be compatible with the M3 and M3 Max printers, allowing the surfaces to be smoothed during the printing process. This should minimize the need for manual post-processing and improve the level of detail of the printed components.
With these innovations, Carbon is underlining its focus on digital dentistry. Visitors to the LMT Lab Day 2025 will have the opportunity to find out about the new materials and automation solutions directly on site and discuss their potential applications for dental manufacturing processes.
