Chinese 3D printer manufacturer Elegoo is currently causing speculation. A previously unknown model called Centauri Carbon 2 has appeared on the TaoBao platform. The device appears to be a successor to the Centauri Carbon introduced in the spring—a CoreXY printer that put the market under considerable pressure with its closed design and affordable price. However, it is unclear how the new model differs from its predecessor and how it relates to Elegoo’s originally announced multicolor plans.
The first Centauri Carbon impressed many users with its speed, stable construction, and good price-performance ratio. However, one major weakness remained: the lack of a system for multicolor printing. While competitors such as Bambu Lab, Prusa, and Creality rely on filament changers, Elegoo originally announced its own system for the third quarter of 2025. In the meantime, references to this have disappeared from the website.
The device listed on TaoBao is clearly labeled Centauri Carbon 2 and appears to have an integrated multicolor unit. Unlike external accessory solutions, the system appears to be permanently built into the housing – similar to Flashforge’s AD5X. A larger acrylic cover is noticeable, presumably to make room for the filament guide during color changes. The device is priced at around 600 euros, but is only listed in yuan and is currently only available on Asian platforms. An official statement from the company is still pending.
