CERATIZIT and PLANSEE present solutions at Formnext 2024

The two companies CERATIZIT and PLANSEE, both part of the Austrian Plansee Group, announce their first joint participation at Formnext 2024 in Frankfurt. This collaboration will enable the companies to offer their customers a wide range of additive manufacturing solutions based on the special properties of refractory metals such as molybdenum, tungsten and carbide.

The additive manufacturing processes in combination with the special material properties of these metals offer considerable advantages. PLANSEE, as the world’s leading supplier of molybdenum and tungsten products, is the only company that can produce additively manufactured molybdenum components with properties similar to conventionally manufactured TZM (titanium-zirconium-molybdenum) alloys. PLANSEE also produces components made of tungsten and heavy metal alloys that are used in demanding industrial applications.

CERATIZIT, for its part, offers the possibility of 3D printing all conventional carbide types from its comprehensive portfolio. This also includes sustainable carbide grades from the upGRADE series, which consist of 50-99% recycled carbide powder. These materials are not only characterised by their high performance, but also make a significant contribution to reducing the ecological footprint.

Sustainability is at the centre of the collaboration. Both companies cover the entire value chain from raw material extraction to the end product. By using renewable energies, optimising processes and recycling tungsten and molybdenum, the Plansee Group has been able to significantly reduce its carbon footprint in recent years. Particularly noteworthy is the recycling rate of 90% for tungsten in 2023. The rest of the raw materials used are also obtained from responsible sources.

“We are thrilled to showcase our joint capabilities at Formnext,” said Dr Bernhard Mayr-Schmölzer, Head of Additive and Joining Technologies, Corporate Research & Development at PLANSEE. “By combining our expertise in additive manufacturing and our extensive range of materials, we can offer our customers innovative solutions that are both environmentally friendly and high-performing.”
