The China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) has recently approved 3D printed hip implants.
The artificial hip replacements have been developed by the University of Peking in collaboration with the private Chinese medical company AK Medical. The implants are 3D printed on the metal 3D printing systems by the Swedish manufacturer Arcam.

Featuring a porous structure, the implants are more lightweight and promote the regeneration of the body’s own bone tissue. Currently, China imports most of the artificial joint replacements from abroad and hopes to drastically reduce costs with implants 3D printed in China.
