Cold spray specialist Titomic expands into the USA with a 20 million investment

The Australian company Titomic, known for its cold spray technology in the field of metallic 3D printing, is expanding its presence in the USA. With an investment of 30 million Australian dollars (around 20 million US dollars), a new headquarters and production facility is being built in Huntsville, Alabama.

The expansion follows increasing demand from the US defense sector for Titomic Kinetic Fusion (TKF) technology. The robot-assisted cold spraying process enables the processing of different metal materials in one component – an important feature for repairs and spare parts production. One focus is on the production of titanium protection plates for military vehicles.

TKF technology is already being used internationally in the defense sector. The French Ministry of Defense uses a D523 cold spray system, while the Dutch army has ordered ten metal printing systems. “The successful capital increase marks an important milestone for Titomic,” explains the new CEO Dag W. R. Stromme. “We can now further develop our cold spray technology through the US expansion and expand our global manufacturing presence.”

The growth is also accompanied by a change in management. Jim Simpson will take over the position of CEO from Herbert Koeck from January 2025. Simpson already serves as interim President of Titomic USA and Deputy CEO. He brings experience from management positions at Virgin Orbit, Aerojet Rocketdyne and Boeing.

The new facility in Huntsville will increase production capacity and accelerate the development of new applications. The location was strategically chosen – Huntsville is home to important research and development facilities in the defense and aerospace industry.
