Cooler Master and Prusa are launching a global design competition called “FreeForm Playground” that targets 3D-printable mods for three modular products: MasterFrame 600, QUBE 540, and MasterLiquid Atmos II. The initiative addresses makers, PC modders, and beginners alike and relies on open templates. Official STL templates are available via Cooler Master’s profile on Printables, enabling participants to design functional upgrades, visual remixes, or experimental add-ons even without having the hardware on hand.
The focus is on using additive manufacturing as a complement to modular PC hardware. CAD-based adjustments can generate brackets, airflow guides, cable and radiator covers, or mounting adapters that can be produced in FFF or MSLA processes from common filaments or resins. Entries will be judged on creativity, utility, and execution.
“Our community thrives on creativity and problem solving,” said Wei Yang, General Manager of Cooler Master North America. “The FreeForm Playground gives designers and builders the foundation to express their ideas and share them with the world. It shows how far modular hardware can go when the community takes part in shaping it.”
The initiative builds on the FreeForm 2.0 concept, which emphasizes personalization and open design processes. With publicly accessible templates, a growing library of real accessories emerges that can be downloaded, printed, and used directly in one’s own setup. The partners are providing prizes; for first place these include, among other things, an Original Prusa MK4S kit and a custom-configured Cooler Master system. Additional prizes include Prusameter as well as components such as the MasterLiquid Atmos II and QUBE 540.
Open modding competitions accelerate exchange between manufacturers and the community. For 3D printing users, standardized reference STLs offer reliable interfaces for developing precisely fitting parts that can be shared reproducibly—a pragmatic way to integrate additive design into everyday PC hardware.
