Swiss company Leg&airy and Danish company “Create it REAL” have announced a strategic partnership. Together, they plan to use 3D printing to produce orthopedic seating surfaces and cushions for wheelchairs to improve the quality of life for many users.
According to Leg&airy CEO Faizan S. Mohammad, it’s not just about replacing traditional foams. Rather, he says, the collaboration is a commitment to greater breathability, hygiene and comfort in wheelchair seating. It also paves the way for using modern manufacturing technologies to guarantee unsurpassed seating comfort.
“Create it REAL” brings its expertise in 3D printing technology to the table. Using what is known as “programmable foam,” the foams can be customized in a targeted manner. According to the company, this achieves the best seating experience since foam was invented.
Create it REAL plans to showcase the innovations at the REHACARE trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany. According to Business Development Manager Lene Jensen, visitors there will not only be able to try out seating, but also experience 3D printing with soft TPU live.
Both partners are excited about the possibilities of improving the quality of life of wheelchair users with customized 3D printing. The technology is expected to gain further importance in the coming years.
