In metal additive manufacturing, structured data and traceable processes are becoming increasingly important, particularly in highly regulated industries such as aerospace. Against this backdrop, MMB Volum-e has entered into a three-year contract with the software provider amsight. The goal is the company-wide implementation of a data-driven quality management solution that maps all process steps of additive manufacturing and documents them in an audit-proof manner.
The decision was preceded by an extended testing phase in ongoing production operations. During this period, MMB Volum-e evaluated the extent to which process data from powder handling, machine operation, post-processing, and inspection could be consolidated into a consistent data basis. According to the company, the decisive factor was the software’s ability to structurally analyze these previously distributed data sets and make them available across the entire lifecycle of a component.
“After a thorough evaluation period, we selected amsight as our long-term software partner because of the company’s ability to provide end-to-end traceability and structured, data-driven quality evidence across our complete AM process chain — a critical requirement for space applications,” says Eric Baustert, Innovation Director at MMB Volum-e. “Having our powder, process, and inspection data in one place gives us a much stronger basis for qualification, audits, and continuous improvement.”
amsight is now fully integrated into the production environment and supports, among other things, the operation of ten laser powder bed fusion systems. By centrally collecting machine and quality data, MMB Volum-e can compare process stability across multiple systems and identify deviations at an early stage. Spreadsheet-based standalone solutions are thus replaced by a searchable data platform that supports both operational quality assurance and long-term process improvements.
“This long-term agreement reflects a high level of trust and a shared understanding of how data-driven quality management is essential for additive manufacturing in regulated industries,” says Tim Wischeropp, CEO & Co-Founder of amsight. “Together with MMB Volum-e, we are building a robust foundation for traceability, compliance, and continuous process improvement in space-grade AM, without the complexity of a large MES or ERP project.”
The contract thus underscores a broader industry trend: instead of pure scaling, the systematic control and verifiability of additive processes are increasingly coming into focus.
