Nikon SLM Solutions and Interspectral are joining forces in the field of metal 3D printing. The goal of the strategic collaboration is an integrated solution for quality monitoring that directly connects Interspectral’s visualization and analysis platform AM Explorer with Nikon SLM’s open metal AM systems. Users will be able to evaluate process data in real time in order to reduce qualification efforts, increase repeatability and structure certification processes in the aerospace, energy and defense industries.

At the core of the approach is AM Explorer, which brings together machine data, sensor streams and CT data in a shared data model. In existing installations, including at GKN Aerospace, the software is already being used to advance series-production readiness on large-scale systems such as the NXG platform.

“We are proud to collaborate with Nikon SLM to support customers on their journey toward industrialized additive manufacturing,” said Isabelle Hachette, CEO of Interspectral. “Our shared work with GKN Aerospace is a strong proof point, showing how integrated data insights can protect and enhance some of the world’s most valuable AM production workflows.”

On the Nikon SLM side, the open machine architecture of multi-laser systems provides the basis for offering extensive process data access for external analytics platforms.

“AM Explorer enhances our manufacturing process by automating complex workflows and ensuring robust quality assurance,” said Martin Thordén, Vice President, GKN Aerospace, Sweden. “It supports our goal of scaling AM production while maintaining stringent aerospace industry standards.”

“Today I am proud to announce our strategic collaboration with Interspectral,” said Simon Merkt-Schippers, Executive Vice President Product Management, Nikon SLM Solutions. “Together with our partner, we are enabling and easing the transition from low-series to large-scale AM production through advanced quality assurance solutions. Our combined total AM solutions will improve operational efficiency and unlock AM at true scale — proven by pioneering end customers like GKN Aerospace.”

The partners see the collaboration as part of a broader trend towards data-driven additive manufacturing, in which quality assurance is not viewed as an additional effort but as an integral part of the process chain. The joint solution is to be showcased in live operation at Formnext 2025 in Frankfurt in Hall 11.1 at booth B38.
