Designer Bradley Rothenberg Is Working on “Cellular Textiles”

Designer Bradley Rothenberg is focused on “making 3D printed textiles, jewellery and accessories a viable and accessible reality”. 

Rothenberg is currently working on “Cellular Textiles” which consist of repeating interlocking cells, that vary to create different performances of stretch, opacity and flexibility throughout a textile. A tank top made out of such a 3D printed material was presented at the Fashion Week in New York last month. The technique used to create the Top is Selective Lasersintering, where – in this case – nylon powder particles are “sintered” layer by layer using a high power laser.

At the same time the designer has also been developing a software to use these textiles for fitting on 3D scans of human bodies. So ideally you would take a 3D scan of yourself and custom fit a garment to your shape.
