Digital Sculptor Janne Kyttanen Unveils 3D Printed “Avoid Chandelier”

Finnish digital sculptor Janne Kyttanen creates works at the intersection of 3D printing, virtual and augmented reality. Currently, the artist and designer is showcasing his latest work, the “Avoid Chandelier”, at Design Miami /Basel 2016.

Gallery ALL will unveil the Avoid Chandelier, an extraordinary oversized light feature. The Avoid Chandelier is a glowing circular light fixture featuring an intricate diamond structure. The form of this design is influenced by Lie sphere geometry, a geometrical theory in which the fundamental concept is the sphere. In Lie sphere geometry all lines should be regarded as spheres of infinite radius and points in the plane should be regarded as spheres of zero radius. Measuring 1.5m in diameter, this opulent sculptural piece provides warm illumination in even the most monumental of spaces.

Galerie VIVID (Rotterdam) will present Avoid, shown for the first time at Basel in a sleek rhodium finish. This sculptural work features a complex diamond structure influenced by Lie sphere geometry.

Gallery ALL and Galerie VIVID will also present a curated collection of Kyttanen’s works including:

Metsidian Tray, Shelf and Side Table: sculptural designs that represent a single moment in time – an eruption that melds two divergent materials together. The prehistoric evolves into the futuristic as organic volcanic obsidian transforms into clean, fluid mesh. The Metsidian collection harmoniously unites otherworldly form with everyday function.

Rollercoaster Tables: infinite spirals, exhibited at Design Miami / Basel in a luxurious sandblasted Moët & Chandon Champagne finish.

Them Romans: a mirror-finish bronze sculpture in the form of a triptych. Kyttanen sees that every fraction of time can be frozen and then translated into a physical object. Press pause, and this triptych appears. Play the tape back and forth and press pause again. What do you see?

Sedona Tables: two tables from Kyttanen’s continuing Sedona collection. The form of this collection has been inspired by the infamous red rocks of Sedona, referencing the peaks and plateaus of Sedona’s unique sandstone formations. These designs feature a strong silhouette and delicate, organic detailing. Presented at Design Miami/Basel in sumptuous mirror-finish bronze (lounge table), and polished aluminum (side table).

Each piece conveys Kyttanen’s unique design aesthetic, referencing forms found in nature and beyond. All works are available in limited editions of 8 pieces (plus two artist proofs per edition).
