DMG MORI Federal Services has achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 2.0 Level 2 in the United States, positioning itself as a reliable partner for security-critical manufacturing contracts for the Department of Defense. The certification is particularly relevant for projects in which CAD data, manufacturing programs and process parameters for highly complex components – including metallic 3D-printed parts – must be protected as “Controlled Unclassified Information” (CUI).

The certificate attests to the implementation of 110 security controls based on NIST SP 800-171 R2. These requirements include, among other things, the protection of design data, encrypted transmission of NC and AM build files, as well as the monitoring of networked machines.

Earning CMMC 2.0 Level 2 certification is a testament to DMG MORI’s deep commitment to cybersecurity, operational integrity, and mission readiness,” said Mark Mohr, President of DMG MORI Federal Services. “This milestone strengthens our position as a trusted partner to the U.S. Department of Defense and reaffirms our long-term commitment to advancing secure manufacturing capabilities right here in Illinois.”

For the additive manufacturing sector, the certification is particularly relevant because 3D printing is increasingly being used in safety-critical applications – for example in functionally integrated metal components for aerospace, land vehicles or energy systems. Hybrid manufacturing cells are often used here, in which machining, automation and AM processes run on a shared, digitally networked infrastructure. CMMC-compliant IT and OT security is intended to ensure that design changes, build jobs and quality data remain protected along the supply chain.

Investing in this certification process reflects our confidence in Illinois’ advanced manufacturing future,” added Mohr. “With world-class talent, strong public-private partnerships, and a culture of innovation, Illinois is poised to lead the nation in secure, high-technology manufacturing.”

Mohr also emphasizes the regional dimension: this commitment strengthens Illinois as a hub for highly automated, secure manufacturing and supports nationwide programs such as the CHIPS Act and the National Defense Authorization Act. In addition to securing defense projects, new career pathways in robotics, automation and digital manufacturing are to be created – in cooperation with universities and research institutions.

In this way, DMG MORI Federal Services sees itself not only as a supplier of machines and systems, but as part of a resilient, digitally secured production base in which additive and conventional manufacturing technologies are used together for safety-critical components.
