With the completed acquisition of the German machine tool manufacturer HELLER by DN Solutions, a group is formed that aims to more closely integrate traditional machining, digital platforms, and additive manufacturing. The transaction was approved by regulatory authorities, including those in Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and marks a further step in the international consolidation of the machine tool industry.
DN Solutions contributes primarily its global structures, scalable production processes, and software-based manufacturing solutions to the partnership. HELLER adds many years of experience in precision machine engineering as well as deep process expertise from demanding industries. For users, this results in an expanded solution portfolio that increasingly takes hybrid manufacturing approaches into account. These include combinations of subtractive machining and additive processes, for example for functional integration, repair processes, or the production of complex geometries.
Won-jong Kim, CEO of DN Solutions, explains: “This acquisition is a groundbreaking step for both companies. Our goal is to create a strong alliance that neither company could achieve on its own and that enables us to meet the changing demands of the industry while ensuring long-term stability and growth. By combining our strengths, we will further expand our leading position in the global manufacturing landscape and offer our customers even greater added value.”
In industrial 3D printing in particular, the close integration with conventional machine tools is becoming increasingly important. Additive metal processes are being integrated more and more into existing process chains in order to perform subtractive post-processing of components after printing or to deliberately embed additive structures into milling and turning processes. The new corporate group sees potential here to enable more efficient workflows through coordinated machine concepts, shared control platforms, and data-based process monitoring.
Thorsten Schmidt, CEO of HELLER, added: “This partnership is a win-win situation for both companies. Together, we will serve customers worldwide with a broad portfolio, comprehensive expertise, and a high level of innovative strength. The collaboration positions us as a premium partner for demanding industries and enables a holistic solution offering in machine tool engineering that supports customers in all aspects.”
Against the backdrop of reindustrialization, more resilient supply chains, and increasing investment in sectors such as aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing, this strategic direction is gaining additional relevance. The planned step-by-step integration is intended to preserve the independence of the HELLER brand while simultaneously creating synergies in research, development, and service. This positions the group in the coming years as a provider of integrated manufacturing solutions in which industrial 3D printing will play an increasingly important role.
