e-NABLE Launches New Community Design Challenges: CREATE T.I.M.E.

We’ve reported on many inspiring stories coming from e-NABLE, a global community of thousands of people that create 3D printed prosthetic hands for people who need them and cannot afford high-priced conventional prosthetics. All designs created are open source and can be downloaded on the community’s website

With more and more people getting involved in the efforts of creating new designs or improving current designs to share with the world, e-NABLE has introduced its community design challenges titled CREATE T.I.M.E. (Think. Imagine. Make. e-NABLE).

Over the period of this year, monthly challenges will be launched, that can help expand the number of current devices available, improve older designs and encourage kids as well as adults to think outside of the box. However, not all of these challenges will be based on devices for hands or upper limbs, as Jen Owen explains: “Sometimes I get interesting requests in my email inbox requesting help designing assistive devices for animals of all types or individuals who have other needs that could benefit from a community of creatively minded makers willing to donate their time to collaborate and come up with solutions for those in need.”

While all of this is for a good cause, some challenges will also have prizes associated with them. The CREATE T.I.M.E. Challenge for January 2016 is the following:

Create useful task specific tools and fun designs that can be easily attached to the Python hand via a system of railsthat will allow the end users to simply switch out their tools as needed!

Are you inspired? Click here to enter the challenge and share your ideas and designs with the global community and help e-NABLE to change the lives of others. Below are some great examples already in use.
