Chinese 3D printer manufacturer Elegoo presented its first program for the advancement of women, “ELEGOO With Her”, at Formnext 2024. The aim of the initiative is to make it easier for women and girls to get into 3D printing and at the same time to strengthen their skills in this area in the long term. The event kicked off with a clothing presentation and a panel discussion featuring well-known female designers such as FashionTech engineer Anouk Wipprecht. The event was also supported by partners such as Chitubox and Kexcelled.
“We are seeing more and more women using 3D printing for hobbies, creative projects or business purposes. This inspires us and at the same time shows the potential of this technology for all genders,” explains Coco Lee, Brand Director of Elegoo. With “ELEGOO With Her”, Elegoo not only wants to support this growth, but also present role models and create a community in which women can learn specifically from experienced mentors.
A special highlight of the program was the live demonstration of the “Scale Dress” by Anouk Wipprecht. This dress combines mechanical 3D-printed parts made with Elegoo’s Neptune 4 printer series with electronic servo motors. It is modular and can be recreated by anyone, as Wipprecht has published the plans on Instructables. “This project makes getting into FashionTech or wearable robotics affordable,” Wipprecht said.
The panel discussion, which took place on November 19 at Formnext, brought together leading designers and educators from the 3D printing sector. In addition to Anouk Wipprecht, Batoul al-Rashdan, Brigitte Kock and Linette Manuel also took part. Elegoo also announced that 30 women and girls will be included in a special support program. The participants will not only receive 3D printers, but also software support and intensive mentoring. Online workshops and courses will help them develop technical expertise before their results are presented in April 2025.
