The US Department of Defense has added Elementum 3D as a contractor under the Enterprise-Wide Agile Acquisition Contract (EWAAC). The aim of the framework agreement, which runs until 2031 and is worth up to USD 46 billion, is to accelerate procurement processes for Air Force armaments programs and make them more efficient through digital development methods. Elementum 3D will contribute its expertise in the field of metal-based additive manufacturing and material-specific process parameters.
The contract does not provide for an immediate allocation of funds, but serves as a flexible award platform for projects that can be funded through various government initiatives. The focus is on the so-called “Digital Trinity”: a concept that brings together agile software development, open system architectures and digital engineering processes. These approaches are intended to significantly accelerate the development and operational readiness of modern weapon systems.
Elementum 3D, based in Erie, Colorado, develops specially adapted metal powders, printing parameters and associated manufacturing processes for industrial 3D printing. The integration of these technologies into military development projects enables the production of highly resilient components with complex geometries that are difficult to realize using conventional processes. Additive manufacturing also offers advantages in the supply of spare parts and the rapid implementation of prototypes.
“The Elementum 3D team is ready to develop innovative capabilities that align with the nation’s defense needs,” said Elementum 3D CEO and Founder Dr. Jacob Nuechterlein. “Our history runs deep with the U.S. Air Force, and we are honored to be part of this contract in support of the US armed forces.”
The inclusion in the EWAAC program strengthens Elementum 3D’s position in the field of defense-oriented additive manufacturing and underlines the potential of 3D printing processes in safety-critical environments.
