EOS and Godrej cooperate to expand additive manufacturing for the Indian aerospace industry

EOS and the aerospace division of India’s Godrej Enterprises Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Aero India 2025 to establish an additive manufacturing supply chain for the aerospace industry in India. The aim is to jointly build production capacity and technical expertise to additively manufacture components for Indian and international OEMs. Particular attention will be paid to the application of multi-laser AM technology on an industrial scale.

The partnership responds to the growing demand for more efficient, weight-optimized and geometrically complex components in the aerospace industry.

“This partnership is a strategic step towards future viability. 3D printing is driving a paradigm shift in aerospace, allowing us to create complex shapes and sizes with a single printing process. We are committed to expanding our portfolio of ‘green’ products while improving production value through material efficiency and optimized processes,” said
Maneck Behramkamdin, Executive Vice President and Head of the Aerospace Division of Godrej & Boyce, a Godrej Enterprises Group company.

According to EOS, it has already qualified a Class 2 flight safety-critical titanium component for a passenger aircraft – an example of the increasing maturity of additive manufacturing in aerospace.

“AM has brought about an undeniable change in the aerospace industry. We are already seeing examples of conventionally manufactured assemblies consisting of more than 100 parts being simplified by AM to just three or four parts to facilitate assembly, manufactured on demand, reducing complexity and cost. We have also succeeded in developing and certifying the first Class 2 flight safety critical titanium component for a passenger aircraft – the highest level of qualification in aerospace,” said Vinu Vijayan, Director, EOS India.

“This is such a natural partnership that ultimately marks a significant milestone in the development of AM in India. Now we are working closely with Godrej and our Additive Minds applied engineering team to qualify production that meets the stringent quality requirements of space and aerospace applications, while playing a critical role in building the next generation of additive manufacturing workforce – an essential factor in the success of the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative,” said Dr. Ankit Saharan, Director of Metal Technology at Additive Minds globally.

EOS also sees the cooperation as a contribution to the “Make in India” initiative. Through joint development, process qualification and knowledge transfer, the aim is not only to promote the industrial use of AM technology, but also to contribute to the training of a qualified specialist base. The strategic partnership is seen as a building block for the long-term establishment of additive manufacturing in the Indian aerospace industry.
