Facebook Supports Embedding of 3D Models

Facebook now supports embedding 3D models of Sketchfab, one of the fasted growing platforms to publish and find 3D objects.

Launched in early 2012, Sketchfab has become a popular hub for 3D designers to share their work. Files can be uploaded in almost any 3D format, either directly on the website or using one of their exporters. Once the model is on the platform, it can be embedded on webpages or shared on other platforms like Tumblr, WordPress, Kickstarter etc. and, as of now, Facebook.

The team of Sketchfab is clearly excited about their content being displayed in the largest social network:

“Just include a Sketchfab link in a Facebook post and it will automagicallyturn it into our sketchfabulous real-time 3D player. Everyone can browse the content in 3D without leaving their feed.”

“With a small team, we’ve built something that is so good that Facebook wants to bring it to their 2bn users. We are proud to be one of the very few partners to provide rich HTML5 content on Facebook, and the first interactive format to be supported in the newsfeed.”
