FilaMan is an open source solution that automates and simplifies filament management for 3D printers. Developed by a maker and developer from Leipzig, the system combines weight measurement, NFC tag management and integration with Spoolman, another open source tool for filament management.
FilaMan is based on an ESP32 microcontroller and is able to weigh a spool, read its NFC tag and automatically update the data in Spoolman. In addition to weight recording, the system can also write NFC tags and link them directly to a spool in Spoolman. Filaments can be managed, stocks monitored in real time and settings made via a web interface.
FilaMan offers a special feature for users of BambuLab printers with AMS (Automatic Material System). This allows users to assign and manage their own spools to the AMS. The connection is made via WLAN so that the system works locally and without cloud dependency. An OLED display shows important information such as the current bobbin weight and the connection status.
The project is completely open source and both the software and the hardware are freely available. Interested parties can access the software via GitHub and build the system themselves.
