Filametrics: Bambu Lab develops platform for managing filament stocks in 3D printing

Bambu Lab has announced Filametrics, a new software solution aimed specifically at users of 3D printers who want to organize their filaments more efficiently and manage projects in a more structured way. The web application, which is currently in the alpha phase, is set to become part of the manufacturer’s “Home Assistant” function in the long term.

The aim of the platform is to solve typical problems when dealing with a growing number of filament spools. Filametrics offers a range of basic functions, including a real-time dashboard for an overview of available and used materials. The user interface displays all spools sorted by color and allows targeted filtering by manufacturer, material type, color and weight.

Another central element is the project management module. It is based on a Kanban system in which individual print jobs can be tracked from design to completion. The application is supplemented by a catalog function that clearly displays the company’s entire range of filaments and can be shared if required.

Advanced functions will also be available in the long term. These include the automatic recording of consumption data via the slicer or the device itself, predictive analyses and a mobile scan function for new spools. The integration of RFID information is also planned.

The basic functions will be available free of charge. However, advanced analysis and forecasting functions will be reserved for paying users. It is not yet clear to what extent third-party products will be supported. However, it can be assumed that Bambu Lab is also positioning the platform as a strategic tool for building loyalty to its own ecosystem.
