Formlabs has introduced a new range of resins aimed specifically at the hobby and maker sector. The so-called Creator Series currently comprises two products and offers cost-effective materials for applications that require a high level of detail, such as models and figures.
The first two resins in the series are Creator Tough Resin and Creator Super Clear Resin. The former is an ABS-like material that impresses with its high elongation at break and strength. It has a matt gray surface that is easy to paint. Creator Super Clear Resin, on the other hand, is characterized by its transparency, which can be optimized by post-processing such as polishing or clear varnish. The clear resin can also be dyed in various colors.
Both resins are compatible with common resin 3D printers, including not only Formlabs devices, but also other models. The resins are offered for $45 per kilogram, making them significantly less expensive than standard Formlabs resins, which cost about $79 per kilogram. For many of these printers, optimized print settings are available in slicer programs such as Chitubox and Lychee, as well as on a special platform from Formlabs.
Security played a central role in the development. According to Formlabs, the resins underwent similar tests to the company’s standard materials. They produce few volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are virtually odorless.
