Formnext 2022: Attendance almost at pre-Covid level

With over 730 exhibitors and a booked gross area of more than 50,000 m², Formnext is already able to significantly exceed last year’s figures in September. Thus, the trade fair for additive manufacturing and modern industrial production lays the foundation for an excellent 2022 edition of Formnext.

At the same time, Formnext is also setting new standards in terms of content: the supporting program, which will cover current topics and innovations in additive manufacturing at the highest level, from the construction industry and aerospace to ceramic applications and investments, will be more extensive and versatile than ever before. This year’s partner country, France, will also play an important role.

“Additive manufacturing is successfully entering more and more industrial sectors. This is giving rise to more and more new topics and applications,” says Sascha F. Wenzler, Vice President Formnext, Mesago Messe Frankfurt GmbH. “We don’t just map these topics and innovations at Formnext – we discuss them, develop them further with our partners and exhibitors and give them a home.”

For example, Formnext has, among other things, significantly expanded the AM4U Area offering. It includes the topics of start-ups and investments (Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022), construction and architecture, decentralized manufacturing and the partner country France (Wednesday, Nov. 16), AM in education and careers (Nov. 17) and, for the first time, a “Deep Thought presented by ACAM, Formnext and VDMA AG AM,” where AM topics will be examined more intensively and answers to important questions in the industry will be discussed. On Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, a new panel will highlight the use of AM in ceramic applications. Participants in the high-profile AM4U program include Arno Held of AM Ventures, Frank Herzog of HZG, Prof. Johannes Schleifenbaum of RWTH Aachen University and ACAM, Melissa E. Orme of Boeing Additive Manufacturing, Dr. Markus Heering of VDMA AG AM, and numerous renowned scientists and leading representatives of companies worldwide. The lectures are curated by the conceptual sponsor of Formnext, VDMA AG AM.

From AM seminars to career opportunities

In addition, the well-known Discover3Dprinting seminars, which are in high demand especially among AM newcomers, will take place on the AM4U stage every day of the show (daily at 11:20 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday in German; Wednesday and Friday in English). On Thursday, visitors will also be able to find out about the wide range of career opportunities in the AM industry, for example, or have the right application photos taken by a photographer. All content from the AM4U stage as well as impressions, voices and much more will be streamed live on Formnext.TV.

Formnext visitors can thus watch content they missed on site after the show. In addition, viewers who cannot be in Frankfurt can participate in the exciting happenings at Formnext. Trade show visitors can still benefit from the early bird discount on ticket prices up to and including Oct. 15, 2022. In line with Deutsche Bahn’s summer offer, there is also a 9 euro ticket for schoolchildren and students.

High innovation density of exhibitors

The importance of Formnext for the industry is demonstrated by the many innovations that exhibitors have already announced. These range from new manufacturing technologies and equipment to innovations from the entire process chain – from materials to finishing.

“The high innovation density has been a particular hallmark of Formnext for years and ensures time and again that innovations and developments in the industry are triggered and accelerated from here,” says Wenzler.

Visitors will meet the global elite of additive manufacturing at Formnext. Exhibitors already registered include 3D Systems, Additive Industries, AddUp, Arburg, BigRep, Carbon, Desktop Metal, DMG Mori, Dyemansion, EOS, Farsoon, Formlabs, GE Additive, HP, Keyence, Markforged, Materialise, Renishaw, Ricoh, Siemens, Sisma, SLM Solutions , Stratasys, Trumpf, Voxeljet, XJet and Zeiss.

In addition, numerous well-known international groups will showcase their solutions along the entire process chain, including BASF, Covestro, EvonikGKN Sinter Metals Components, Henkel, Höganäs, Linde, Mitsubishi Chemical, Nikon, Oerlikon, Sandvik, SMS Group and many more.

Partner country France: versatile, innovative and broadly positioned

France is one of the most important countries in Europe for additive manufacturing and has been present at Formnext for years. This year, more than 40 French companies, associations and research institutions will be represented at Formnext. With France Additive, Cimes, CCI Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Carnot Network, French partners and important AM associations, regions and research institutions will also participate at Formnext.

Diverse supporting program

In addition to the extensive program on the AM4U Stage, other already established events will be continued and expanded at Formnext 2022, and new program items will be presented. For example, the Start-up Challenge, which honors innovative and viable business ideas from young companies, will take place for the eighth time. The exhibitors in the Start-up Area will present themselves in short rounds of introductions on the AM4U stage, and there will also be exciting contributions on the subject of investment and funding.

The purmundus challenge ideas competition will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special “Best of 10 Years” show. In addition, the high-quality conference program organized by content partner TCT will again focus on current trends and developments in additive manufacturing in 2022. Here, high-ranking representatives from Honda, GE Healthcare, PepsiCo and other companies will discuss current developments in medical technology, aerospace and the automotive and food industries, among others. The VDMA will present its special show with industrial AM applications and business cases from the world of mechanical engineering, and will provide further insights into this with presentations on the AM4U stage.

The BE-AM special show will use real applications to demonstrate the advanced developments of the increasingly important 3D printing in the construction industry. At the same time, the BE-AM Symposium will discuss background and future developments in the field – covering 3D printing with clay, sustainability and digital manufacturing, among other topics. The field of norms and standards, which is important for the entire AM industry and users, will again be discussed by experts and decision-makers from all over the world at the renowned ASTM Standards Forum, which will already take place in Frankfurt on November 14, 2022.

New to the Formnext supporting program is the “Wohlers Report LIVE at Formnext 2022” event on Nov. 14, following the Standards -Forum, where attendees will get an overview of the AM industry and many valuable insights on materials and component production, the future of AM and much more. During Formnext 2022, from Nov. 15 – 17, in-kind prizes will also be auctioned, with proceeds benefiting Ukraine Relief. The items will be donated by exhibitors for a silent auction for this purpose.
