At Formnext 2024 in Frankfurt, ARBURGadditive presented a wide range of technologies and materials for industrial additive manufacturing. With a total of six machine exhibits and numerous practical examples, the company demonstrated applications for plastic granules, filaments and liquid silicone (LSR). The new Freeformer 550-3X, which offers new possibilities in production with extended functions and materials, attracted particular attention.
A central topic was the variety of materials that ARBURGadditive opens up through plastic freeforming (APF). New products presented included TR 90, a material approved for food and drinking water, and LMPAEK as an alternative to PEEK. In medical technology, the company scored with resorbable materials for implants and a TPE cartilage substitute that can reduce invasive operations. Another focus was on electronics, where capacitive sensors were presented as part of the “Seestern” research project. This project combines plastic and metal printing for demanding applications and demonstrates the potential of the AKF process for hybrid manufacturing solutions.
One highlight of the trade fair appearance was the premiere of the Freeformer 550-3X, which offers a larger installation space capacity and an optimized Gestica control system. The latter supports users with a production assistant that improves process reliability and user-friendliness. The Freeformer 750-3X with high-temperature equipment demonstrated its capabilities with Ultem 9085, a material that is particularly suitable for the aerospace industry. For flexible applications in the production of operating materials, ARBURG presented the TiQ 8 filament printer and the TiQ 2 entry-level machine.
“With our wide range of processes, materials and applications, we have a suitable solution for the most diverse requirements in additive manufacturing. We were very satisfied with both the number of trade visitors and the quality of the discussions and interest in specific solutions,” summarized Martin Neff, Head of Sales AKF at ARBURGadditive. “Customers from both the injection molding sector and industrial additive manufacturing are interested in our solutions, which we offer worldwide.”
Sustainability also played an important role. Projects such as ORAM, which aims to achieve closed material cycles in aviation, and the processing of bioplastics such as Arboblend, underline the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly solutions. With this range of technologies and applications, ARBURGadditive impressed the trade visitors and strengthened its position in the field of additive manufacturing.
