Gigaprize 2024: re:3D donates large-format 3D printers for charitable projects

The US company re:3D has announced the launch of its Gigaprize 2024 campaign. The aim of the program is to support social and charitable organizations by providing large-format 3D printers. For every hundred printers sold, re:3D will donate a Gigabot 4 to an organization that stands out for its commitment to its community.

Past recipients of the Gigaprize include Brookwood in Georgetown, a facility that provides vocational training and community to adults with disabilities, and Magic Wheelchair, a project that creates customized 3D-printed costumes for children in wheelchairs. Also supported was the Tunapanda Institute in Nairobi, which provides local educational programs and access to 3D printing technologies.

The application period for this year’s award runs from November 3 to December 9, 2024, and applicants must submit a three-minute video outlining how the Gigabot 4 would support their mission. The videos will be published on the re:3D YouTube channel. An independent panel of experts will judge the entries, with 10 percent of the overall score based on the number of views and likes. The winner will be announced on New Year’s Day 2025.

The Gigabot 4 is a large-format industrial 3D printer whose capacity and versatility make it ideal for projects with social added value. re:3D CEO Samantha Snabes explains that the initiative aims to make the transformative power of 3D printing accessible for charitable purposes. The Gigaprize campaign underscores the company’s commitment to bringing the benefits of advanced manufacturing technologies to communities around the world.
