The medical technology company Turner MedTech has developed a professional 3D printing filament to be released to the market soon.
GMASS is a patent pending high-density ABS-based filament with a variety of metallic fillers such as bismuth and tungsten. This allows for a density close to traditional metals while still offering the design flexibility of ABS plastic.
Turner MedTech sees the use of the non-toxic filament for rapid prototyping and low-quantity additive manufacturing for applications that require weighting, balancing or radiation shielding:
- Consumer – Sporting goods, add weight, balancing
- Healthcare – Medical x-ray shielding, nuclear medicine components, laboratory equipment
- Industrial – X-ray shielding, reactor shielding, vibration dampening, inertial weighting
GMASS will be available in the four colours natural, red, blue and dark grey. The recommended printing temperature is between 200°C and 230°C.
