Gucci relies on SLS technology with sustainable materials for new sneakers

Gucci presents the Cub3d sneaker, a model that combines traditional design with modern manufacturing technology. The shoe integrates 3D-printed elements produced using selective laser sintering (SLS) and uses Demetra, a sustainable material developed by Gucci. The aim is to combine aesthetics and innovative manufacturing methods.

The sole of the Gucci Cub3d is characterized by a complex lattice structure based on geometric polyhedrons. Thanks to SLS technology, a resilient yet lightweight structure is created that offers both functional and aesthetic benefits. The upper material consists primarily of Demetra, a material made from 70% plant-based raw materials that is characterized by its durability and flexibility. It is complemented by recycled polyester and leather that has been tanned without metal or chrome compounds.

The combination of sustainable materials and additive manufacturing reflects the efforts to make production processes more resource-efficient. 3D printing in particular makes it possible to minimize material waste and produce complex structures without additional tools. According to Gucci, Demetra has been specially developed for use in shoe design in order to optimize the balance between durability and comfort.

The Cub3d sneaker will be released in a limited edition of 20 pieces and will be presented exclusively at the Gucci flagship store in Milan. The launch underlines the growing influence of additive manufacturing processes in the fashion industry and shows how 3D printing is increasingly finding its way into luxury segments.
