The technology company Hexagon and the Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team have extended and expanded their 18-year collaboration. At the heart of the partnership is the use of advanced 3D laser scanning and digitization technology to make the development and production of Formula 1 cars more efficient.
Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division has been providing digital tools that enable Oracle Red Bull Racing to accurately and quickly capture vehicle components using 3D scanning. This technology is particularly important in view of the upcoming technical regulation changes for the 2026 Formula 1 season, which will require completely redesigned vehicles. Hexagon’s systems enable the precise digital capture and analysis of complex components, allowing development cycles to be shortened and resources to be used more efficiently.
Christian Horner, Team Principal and Oracle Red Bull Racing’s CEO, said: “Hexagon has played a vital role in the success we’ve achieved over a long period as a valued partner to the team. Our technology partners are a crucial element for us and we’re very selective about who we work with. Hexagon will ensure our competitiveness for years to come.”
In addition to the Formula 1 team, the cooperation will also include Oracle Red Bull’s sim racing program in the future. The goal of this expansion is to bridge the gap between virtual racing and real-world motorsports, while supporting young engineering talent.
Josh Weiss, president of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, commented: “At Hexagon, we’re honoured to continue our partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing, where our advanced measurement technologies play a key role in driving on-track success. Sharing a legacy of entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and excellence, we’re excited to face the challenges of the upcoming season and embrace an even greener, more exhilarating era in 2026 and beyond.”
The partnership between Hexagon and Oracle Red Bull Racing exemplifies how digital technologies, particularly in the area of 3D printing and digitalization, are becoming increasingly critical to success in Formula 1. The potential of these technologies goes beyond motorsport and could also be groundbreaking for other industries.
